Is now wonderfully and beautifully organised the food is and how by organising it in such a way it looks beautiful and very, very tasty.

Not a tuna nicoise bento
Today I made a cute bento of tuna, potatoes, sweetcorn, mangetout and salad (on the bottom layer)
I'm currently munching through it now and it's very tasty!
I've added some lemon juice and pepper to it for taste.

Bento forgetfulness
Its been a while since I made a proper pretty bento. I have made bento's but nothing nice enough to write on the blog about.
The other night however I did make sushi for friends with miso broth which I think went down well.
I visited the large Chinese supermarket and found that they had a really good Japanese section - bigger than I remember it and I felt like a kid in a candy store! It was amazing!
As all of the bits and pieces were only for a dinner party I have plenty left over and think I might have vegetarian sushi and miso broth for dinner tonight. mmmmmmmmmm I can't wait!

First day at work
Today I made a lovely "first day at your new job" bento! Sadly in my haste to get out of the house and not be late I didn't take any pictures :(
My friend Kiki who is currently living in Japan sent me some really really really lovely bento items over as a gift and I used them today. Perhaps getting ready for my second day of work will take less time and I'll get the chance to take some lovely pics!

Sushi Cupcakes
In my obsession with Kawaii I have just come across these:
I think they are actually the coolest cupcakes I have seen!
Painting
It would be so wonderful to be able to make my lunch look so kawaii that it looked just like a paining!
Just like this painting in fact from: http://www.oneinchpunch.net/2008/04/18/japanese-sushi-chef-creates-van-gogh’s-sunflowers-and-pandas/
There's is some really cute looking sushi on there too!

whoopie pies
I think I've just fallen in love with a Whoopie pie!
I was listening to radio 4 the other day and they were talking about the Whoopie pie being the next big thing in cake based food and my my my my my they look scrumptious!
Essentially a Whoopie pie is a cake and cream sandwich.
http://www.raisincake.co.uk/whoopie_pie/2008/10/whoop-whoop-whoop.html
Home made Whoopie pies just look so scrumptious.
http://www.goodtoknow.co.uk/recipes/Whoopie-pie is a great place to find recipes on how to make different kinds of Whoppie pie.
I think baking a gluten free version is necessary!

muffaletta sandwich
I've come across the amazing Muffaletta Sandwich and was wondering if it's possible to create a brittish/bento/gluten free version!
It just looks amazing!
http://www.rachelleb.com/2008/04/15/muffuletta-sandwich-from-central-grocery/
Just looking at this now is making me really really hungry! Its just my kind of thing, Salami, cheese, olives, salad ect - awesome!
Today my bento is a little dull in comparison:
Salad, tomatoes, cottage cheese and cucumber! Bring on tomorrows Muffaletta!

Cutters
Again today I used my new cookie cutters and I am really pleased with the result!
Instantly my lunch box looks more exciting. :)
Today however I have added some little picks of marinated tofu to add some protein to my lunch. They don't look very pretty but I will experiment to make them look nicer!

Bento delight!
Today I made an excellent looking bento even if I do say so myself.
I bought some cookie cutters over the weekend and cut my sandwiches up into people and star shapes. It looked very good.
I also separated my carrots off with fake grass which as I mentioned before I find very useful.
Enjoy!

Cookie Dough
I've just started baking for the first time.
I'm not naturally good at it and to make matters worse I am gluten free which means that baking becomes something slightly different and perhaps more meaningful!
I've just found this really good biscuit dough recipie on the Good Food website and thought that I would share:

Fail
Sadly again today I failed with the bento making.
Sleeping seems to be taking priority! Not a good thing as I will have to nip over to the supermarket to get myself some lunch on my break.
Tomorrow I will make a bento. Tomorrow.

Japan
My friend who is living in Japan at the moment has offered to send me some more lovely bento goodies! I just need to decide what I need.
I’ve been googleing bento accessories and there is so so much fun stuff its really hard to decide!
Today my bento is thrown together – so much so that it would make an ugly picture! It’s just salad and prawns! Next week I hope to get back to making Kawaii lunches.

Salad
I’ve been rubbish at making bento over the last few days!
On Monday I didn’t have enough food in the house to make anything to had to have an eat out lunch. Tuesday was just a salad and today everything is in separate pots and looks boring!
I have lettuce in one pot, carrots in another and cottage cheese in another! Really they could have all gone in one and been made to look nice!
I think tomorrow I will get back on the bento horse and start putting my lunches together again.
I think perhaps the problem might be that my lunch box is too small. My boyfriend has started to take the slightly larger blue lunch box to work leaving me with cute boxes that are a little bit teeny!
Oh well, I guess I’ll just have to start shopping for a lovely looking lunch box.............

Kawaii!!!
I just stumbled across this site and I think it’s really cool! www.jimspancakes.com/
Defo worth a look for some kawaii pancakes!

I am so impressed with http://www.mybentolicious.com/ blog at the moment.
The little bears are made with egg and coloured with turmeric!
What a very clever idea. I love it!
Grass separators
It’s all about the grass separators!
I’m so pleased with them they’ve really been helping out make my lunch look pretty without me having to spend ages on preparation!
Today really I wanted to make some rice into a pretty shape using my new shapers – again that my friend sent me from Japan but I was way too lazy!
So instead I have a salad of:
• Lettuce
• Carrot
• Prawns
• Cheese
• Lemon juice
I’m just so hungry now that I really want to eat it! I’m sure though that I can hold out 1.5 hours!
Today’s bento was about keeping the calories down though.
Yesterday the beans and avocado made my bento quite calorific and for a girl who is trying to shed a few pounds it’s not a good look!
(and ooops I ate a packet of crisps too! - so much for the diet!)

Food glorious food!
All I can think about today is food.
I found my camera so was able to take a picture of my bento which I'm really pleased about.
I’m really pleased with the grass as a bento box item. Its enabled me to separate layers of food and made the bland coloured brown beans look more appealing as they are separated off in a thin strip.
Today I have :
Carrots
Greek style beans (the last of them so I won't be having them again for a while! LOL)
Avocado and salad (beneath the cheese!)
A little cute sauce bottle of lemon juice
I think I’m really starting to get to grips with packing the box tight and full so that things don’t move around as when I got to work nothing had moved!

Falafel bento
Today I am quite pleased with my bento.
I did however misplace my camera so had to take the picture with my phone – so the image is not that good quality.
In my bento today was:
• Falafel
• Carrot sticks
• Avocado
• And a separate pot of humus
I used some cute little stickes that my friend sent me from Japan and placed them through the falafel to make it look cuter and separated the carrot sticks with some fake grass that my friend sent me.
Cute.

Yawn
Today my lunch looked so dull! I think the ingredients that I use look really bland. – so bland in face that I didn’t want to take a photo of it.
I did however use a new silicone cup and a grass divider that my friend sent me from Japan. – Sadly though not even those made my lunch look prettier!
I think maybe I need to get a new lunch box – perhaps something that is white and not red as that may help with my boring looking lunches.

Todays lunch
Today I think I made my most tightly packed bento. Its in no way Kwaii but it’s well packed which I think it something that I need to focus on with my other bentos.
Its a Greek theme with chunky humus, salad, Greek bean salad and a piece of chicken – it looks pretty dull but I think it will be tasty!
I will of course be using my pretty new fork to eat it which should add in some cuteness!

Knife and Spoon!
I bought myself a really cute fork and spoon set from Paper chase the other day and I am so delighted with it and don’t know how I managed with a spork!
It’s super, super cute and I love it!
Today It came in really handy and made eating more enjoyable when I made myself some millet porridge with almonds and sugar at work!
Not only by eating with the metal spoon did it feel more normal than a plastic spoon but it is defiantly better for the environment!
Yay for cute spoon!

Rice-tastic!
Today I managed to master my sticky rice whist getting ready for work. I’ve got to say that I am really pleased about that. I very slowly cooked it with twice the amount of water to rice which seemed to work a treat (there are no instructions on my rice for some reason)! Getting the timing right meant that I was able to make two flowers of rice easily which was plenty for my lunch.
My lunch was similar to the other day – In the same box with avocado and rice but this time I added some this sliced cheese which I think added some extra colour and flavour. I did find that putting the rice into the box was difficult as the box is small, square and quite deep. I was wondering if something more elongated would be better. Although today as my lunch was more packed in than the other day it did mean that it didn’t move around too much and looked great when I opened it at lunch time. Yay!

Lazy bento
The past couple of days I’ve been too lazy to get out of bed early and make a great bento (and I’ve bought some lovely sliced gluten free bread so I’ve been making sandwiches!).
On Sunday however I did try and make myself a bento lunch but over cooked the rice so it was disappointing.
I think a good plan for me would to get some cute hole punches to make faces with to instantly jazz up any rice dish or/and get a really cute sandwich cutter.
I think my issue is that I’m obsessed with the way that bento looks but at the moment I’m not very good at making them so feel that I should purchase lots of bells and whistles to make my food look cute!
My concern is that this might become a really expensive lunch obsession and hobby! - And I’ve read that Bento making can get really obsessive......!

Bento goddies!
I bought some lovely bento goodies from http://www.japancentre.com/ last week and they arrived yesterday! It was very, very exciting!
So this morning I embarked on making something kawaii bento for me to eat for lunch.
I first cooked some Korean sushi rice (which is all they had in the Chinese supermarket that I visited on Wednesday) – Sadly I burnt the bottom of the pan with it as I was getting ready for work at the same time which was not a good idea. But although the bottom layer was stuck to the pan the top was fine to I removed it and put it into my brand new Daiso Heart Onigiri Paddle and made my rice into a cute heart shape and put it in a pink paper cupcake case.
I also used some of my new Obento Picks and put some avocado on them along with putting some Japanese tamari sauce in one of my new Animal Shaped Sauce Bottle.
Oh and I added a tiny square of nori on the top of the rice heart as I read yesterday that there should always be something black in a bento box to make it look visually exciting! I’ve got to say that I did find the Nori seaweed difficult to cut. I’m guessing that’s why people use little cutters to do it as every time I tried to cut a rectangle of Nor it would split.
Unfortunately in my haste and hurry I have not really packed enough for me to eat today so will have to nip to the shop and get something else to go with it!
I’ve not done a great job I know but next time I’m going to get up earlier and pay attention to my rice!

Today's bento
Today I think I made my first bento worthy of putting up on here. It's pretty simple but a start.
Ingredients:
Tatziki (in a little pot)
1/2 an avocado
Prawns
Lettuce
1/2 a gluten free pita bread.
I think it looks quite pretty and nutritious!- Obviously not a patch on anything that I have seen bento wise but I'm sure I'll get there!
I'm aiming on getting some egg molds and some of those really pretty sticks soon which I hope will transform my lunch experience!

Kyaraben
I’m sure most hardened bento lovers know that bento is short for Kyaraben but I didn’t. I’ve just come across it and finding that word alone has opened up my Internet search engine to more bento candy!
I’ve also stumbled across this site http://www.youchien.net/make/ which apparently aims to teach people who’s children have just gone off to infant school (Kinder garden?) how to make Kyaraben!
The page is in Japanese but can be translated by google and gives some really great instructions.
At the moment to me it still looks pretty complicated but I intend to have a go if I manage to get up early enough in the mornings!

Bento follow
Just came across this site: http://www.adventuresinbentomaking.com/ I'm going to have a really good look at it as it's amazing!
I took a screen grab to show just how awesome the site is! I would defiantly recommend checking it out!
Bento lust
I find myself googling bento boxes all the time. I just LOVE them!
So I thought I would start a blog writing about the cute things that I come across and my attempts at making bento boxes.
For me creating a bento for lunch really makes me happy. And when I look at my lunch box I have to smile.
I’m no bento pro and have only made a few but I do often have salad for lunch (I am unable to eat wheat or gluten), so find myself having to be inventive with my lunches otherwise I find eating it really dull.
I have read that it takes about 15/20 minutes in the morning to make a good bento. I’m going to experiment and see how long it takes me. I’m hoping not that long otherwise I will have to get out of bed way earlier in the morning!
I googled "bento" (see below image) and there are so many incredible pics that come up of peoples hard worked bento boxes! I've been looking through flicker also and there are many of the below images that come up there.
